46 tpi vs 72 tpi vs 120 tpi
Choosing the right tpi (teeth per inch) depends on the type of fiber you want to card.
46 tpi is best for coarser or dirtier wools such as fleece straight from the sheep. The wider spacing between the pins allows for better cleaning and less clogging.
72 tpi is the most versatile choice β ideal for medium to fine fibers such as Corriedale, Shetland or blends of wool and alpaca.
120 tpi is designed for the finest fibers like alpaca, cashmere, silk or extra-fine merino. It creates exceptionally smooth and uniform batts with minimal fiber damage.
In short: the finer the fiber, the higher the tpi.
Craftsmanship
The Hero 120 tpi is produced in the Netherlands by the LouΓ«t company in Lochem. Each drum carder is built on modern machines using high-quality materials β laminated birch plywood with white HPL on both sides. This solid construction ensures durability, stability, and a lifetime of reliable use.
